I was diagnosed with OSA 5 years ago and had my sinuses augered out and a deviated septum corrected. This did not stop the snoring. I have tried the CPAP machines but since I sleep on my back, my mouth just opened up and the airflow just circulated thru my sinuses and out my mouth. causing me to continually stop breathing. From a lot of home research and documentation, I found that there are basically 2 types of snoring: throat snoring and nasal snoring. I am a throat snorer and found that the only thing that has helped is losing about 10-15 lbs and using a Mandibular Advancement Device. My Brother also snores, tried the MAD and found that it did not work for him. He is a nasal snorer. He went thru a sleep study, was diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea and had his uvula (little dangly thing at the back of the throat) removed and he stopped snoring. This surgery (out of clinic the same day) WAS covered by insurance. So I guess before you go and spend a lot of money on surgery or mouth pieces figure out how you snore and then get check for Sleep apneoa. More than likly if you snore you will have sleep apnea and most of the sinus and uvula surgeries will be covered by insurance.
