How to Stop Snoring
Many people suffer from snoring. Research indicates almost half of all adults will experience snoring problems at some point in their life. Knowing you snore and doing something to stop it are two different things. If you want to know how to stop snoring, first find out what is causing the problem and then seek out the right remedy to help alleviate the breathing condition. Luckily most snoring problems are referred to as mouth snoring which can be easily treated with several anti-snoring devices. However, if snoring is the result of a disorder known as sleep apnea you may need to visit a doctor since this may be a sign of a more serious medical condition.
Many factors can lead to someone snoring. Smoking, excessive drinking, lack of exercise and diets loaded with cholesterol and fat can all cause a person to breathe through their mouth instead of their nose. Most snoring occurs when a person's air ways are congested and they resort to breathing through the mouth which causes the harsh sound we know as snoring. One way to alleviate mouth snoring, which research estimates accounts for 85% of snoring problems, is to use anti-snoring head straps and chin straps. Simple devices that are made from stretchy neoprene materials, snoring headstraps and chinstraps fit snugly beneath a person's jaw and around the back of the neck to force a person's jaw closed so they are encouraged to breathe through their nose.
If you experience congested airways including the nasal passage aromatherapy can also be used to stop snoring. Marjoram oil is often recommended for light to moderate snoring conditions and can easily be found at health food stores and places that sell homeopathic remedies. These essential oils come in small glass jars that a person opens at night so the eucalyptus oil can be released into the air and help unclog the nasal passage which makes it easier for someone to breathe through the nose while sleeping.
If you snoring condition is more serious it may include a breathing disorder known as sleep apnea which may require a visit to the doctor. Sleep apnea involves abnormal pauses in breathing and low breathing patterns with people who suffer from it demonstrating symptoms that include daytime drowsiness, short tempers, lack of focus and headaches. If aromatherapy and anti-snoring chin straps are not alleviating a snoring condition make an appointment to see a doctor since sleep apnea can be a sign of a more serious medical condition that will require other treatments.
